Choosing a wedding photographer

I keep getting asked what should people look for when booking a wedding photographer, so I've put together this blog in the hope it helps.

Choosing a photographer that can deliver the images you want, fit into your day and make everyone feel comfortable can be a daunting task. Here are a few things to consider and ask before making your choice.

· Will the person(s) you meet actually photograph the wedding?

If not you should arrange to meet your photographer and see samples of their work.

· Do you get on and feel comfortable with the photographer?

This is probably the most important decision as a good connection between both parties is essential to create relaxed, happy and natural photographs.

· Ask to see at least one complete wedding in order to assess their work.

· Is your photographer a full time professional photographer?

· Are you happy with the style of photography they offer?

· Do the people in their sample photographs look happy and relaxed?

· Is the photographer a member of a professional body?

· Does the photographer have professional indemnity/liability cover?

Once you have chosen someone who satisfies your needs and with whom you feel comfortable, the rapport between you will, with the photographer’s previous experience, lead to many photographic memories that will last a lifetime.

The weather was a mixed bag of sun, drizzle and wind (almost gale force at times).

Stuart and Liah chose a couple of great venues for their celebrations. They took their vows at Castle Hill United Reformed Church, this was a lovely light airy venue that we hadn't worked before. It was then on to the Falcon Inn at Castle Ashby for the reception. It was a pleasure getting to know and work with a great couple and their guests.

St Paul's playgroup

A special thank you goes to Sue who runs St Paul’s Playgroup for asking us back again this year. St Paul's have seen their largest intake this year, so there were a lot more children to photograph.

I’m pleased to say we got some really nice photos, we even had a family of 4 kids plus mum. Again big thanks to Jackie the playschool leader who helped settle the children. The group pictures were interesting, with 20 very excited preschool children running around, but in the end we pulled it together!

Last week we went on a seminar where we where lucky enough to photograph a couple of professional models. Although the time allotted to us was not very long it was really enjoyable as we had never worked with professional models before. They understood direction and more often than not anticipated the next pose before being told.

Photo Walks of London

We have recently returned from a long weekend in London where my wife treated me to a Photo Walk around London. To be truthful I wasn’t sure what to expect, (a bit of a busman’s holiday). But I was wrong it was great fun, our guide (Ian Hardy) was excellent he knew his cameras and was very knowledgeable of the area and the best places to photograph the tourist attractions without fighting the crowds and without getting them in the shot.

His company Photo Walks of London run 3 different walks I’ve now done one and intend to do another one soon. I can certainly recommend them.
